Why Lanzarote is the Perfect Place to Start Diving

Learning to dive is more than just trying something new — it’s the beginning of a whole new way of seeing the world. At Native Diving Lanzarote, we’ve been guiding new divers since 1999, helping thousands of people take their first breaths underwater in one of the most beautiful diving destinations in Europe.

A unique setting to learn

The island of Lanzarote offers some of the most beginner-friendly diving conditions you could imagine. Our waters are clear, calm and warm, with visibility often reaching 20 to 30 metres. The water temperature stays between 18 °C in winter and 24 °C in summer, so you can dive comfortably at any time of year.

The seabed around Costa Teguise — where our centre is located — is volcanic and full of character: smooth rock formations, small caves, and colourful marine life that make every immersion feel like a discovery.

Perfect diving conditions all year round

Thanks to its subtropical climate, Lanzarote allows us to run try dives and beginner courses all year long. You don’t need to wait for summer or worry about cold water. The island’s stable weather and calm seas make it ideal for your first underwater adventure.

Lanzarote also has excellent tourist infrastructure: comfortable accommodation, easy beach access and safe diving spots just minutes away from our centre.

What to expect from your first dive

If it’s your first time diving, it’s normal to feel a mix of excitement and curiosity. Before entering the water, our instructors give a short safety briefing where we explain how the equipment works, the basic hand signals and what you’ll see underwater.

You don’t need any previous experience — we take care of everything. You’ll dive in small groups, always accompanied by a certified SSI or PADI instructor. The dive usually goes down to a depth of 6–12 metres, perfect for enjoying the underwater world without pressure.

Our philosophy is simple: Safety first, fun always.

What makes Lanzarote special for beginners

Apart from the great visibility and stable conditions, Lanzarote’s volcanic underwater landscape makes it truly unique. As you descend, you’ll find lava formations sculpted by ancient eruptions and illuminated by sunlight filtering through the surface.

According to PADI, Lanzarote is among Europe’s most accessible year-round diving destinations — an ideal place for those starting out (padi.com).

Tips to make the most of your first dive

  • Come relaxed — your first dive is about enjoyment, not performance.
  • Listen carefully to your instructor and ask questions; it’s the best way to build confidence.
  • Avoid flying right after diving; wait at least 12–24 hours.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen before and after the dive.
  • Don’t worry about depth — most of the magic happens near the surface.

Your adventure starts with us

At Native Diving, we believe your first dive should be safe, fun and unforgettable. For more than 20 years we’ve shared our love of the ocean with divers of all ages, helping many turn their first dive into a lifelong passion.

We take pride in teaching at your pace, in a relaxed atmosphere, and showing how diving can be both exciting and environmentally responsible. Because learning to dive is not just about breathing underwater — it’s about connecting with the sea.
