If our island seems incredible to you above the water, that is because you have not yet seen it from below. It is indisputable that Lanzarote has very special conditions, the result of the combination of unique volcanic geological structures and the richness of underwater flora and fauna that the Canary current helps to generate. And within Lanzarote there are some really exceptional spots. This is what we tell you here, which are the best diving areas of our island. To make it clearer, don’t forget to take a look at our map of dives in Lanzarote.
Puerto del Carmen
It is surely the jewel in the crown due to the abundance and diversity of dive sites concentrated here: wrecks, wrecks and lava tunnels await you in this area in the south of the island, with well known and spectacular dive sites such as the Cathedral, the Blue Hole or the Cueva de las Gambas. The dives, of low and medium difficulty between 18 and 40 meters, can be done from the beach or from the boat. Between the white sandy bottoms and dramatic rocky cliffs, here the spectacle of wildlife between walls and wrecks is guaranteed.
Mala
On the eastern side of the island, between Guatiza and Arrieta, the coastline is difficult to access but (perhaps precisely for that reason) tremendously attractive. The dives here are of medium level, and although they start from the coast we can reach depths of up to 40 meters. Puerto Moro and Charco del Palo are two very different options for divers looking for different experiences. In the second, we can make a route perfectly adaptable to different levels without sacrificing the quality of the dive. In the first one, the highlights are the volcanic tubes with their skylights, shrimps and sponges.
Playa Blanca
Here we have a true icon of diving in Lanzarote: the Las Coloradas Atlantic Museum is an impressive place, with more than three hundred human figures waiting for us at the bottom of the sea, the work of sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, and only 12 meters below the surface! But Playa Blanca, at the southern tip of the island, is home to more exceptional dive sites: Punta Berrugo or Playa Flamingo are easy dives, up to 20 meters (usually from the beach), where you can easily spot rays, barracudas, grunts, stingrays, stingrays, dogfish or even tuna…
Isla de Lobos
We escape a little point and we go to the island of Lobos, next to the neighboring Fuerteventura. Here we also have a great variety of spots, with depths between 6 and 40 meters, with the great spectacle of its biological richness both plant and animal as a common element. Las Setas and Bajón del Río are our favorite spots here; with a relatively easy accessibility (around 15 meters, moderate difficulty due to currents), these sunny rock formations scattered on a golden sandy bottom are a real meeting point for more than 130 species of fish.
Bonus: Costa Teguise, get started in style!
Can you dive in Costa Teguise? Of course! At the very door of our dive center we have the perfect place to start diving: Playa del Jablillo, with the best conditions for a dive in calm waters while enjoying the marine life among bream, galanas, spider crabs, black crabs and pejeverdes.
