Wouldn’t you like to be able to walk along the bottom of the sea? It is one of those old dreams of mankind that more or less all of us share; to be able to walk through the depths, exploring sandbanks and reefs on foot, discovering the marine fauna face to face… Now, practicing Sea Trek, it is perfectly possible! The Sea Trek is probably one of those things you can do in Lanzarote that never occurred to you, but you can never forget it: walking under the sea, on the beach of Jablillo (Costa Teguise). In this post we explain in detail what it is and why we recommend it, and we also tell you about our unique offer of adapted Sea Trek.
What is Sea Trek?
The notion of “hiking under the sea” was born with the idea of expanding and facilitating the practice of an underwater activity in a simple, easy and fun way. It all starts with Sea Trek, the helmet designed by the Californian company Sub Sea Systems, a revolutionary device… which is nothing more than a lightweight scuba suit connected to two bottles of breathable air in a raft on the surface. This device allows us, simply put, submerging, walking and breathing underwater. It is an excellent leisure solution for people who do not know how to swim or who have never practiced underwater sports (scuba diving, snorkeling, etc.), whatever their age, even with goggles and breathing difficulties. The great advantages highlighted by Sea Trek practitioners are that:
- The “normal” breathing allows you to enjoy the experience to the fullest.
- By not carrying bottles, mobility is much easier and more pleasant.
- It can be done in a group, so no one is left out.
This Sea Trek activity is only available in 54 destinations worldwide (only Lanzarote in Europe).
Come and get to know Lanzarote in depth!
Our diving center and diving school is located in Costa Teguise, on the eastern coast of our island, very close to the capital, Arrecife. Here, in the vicinity of Jablillo beach, is where we develop our activities and most of the dives we do, for its excellent conditions for diving and other underwater sports. In this activity, which takes place at shallow depths (up to 6 meters, very close to the surface), it is very important that the environment accompanies. We mean that here, the richness of the flora and fauna that we find between the volcanic rock and the golden sands of our beaches allows us to thoroughly enjoy a full experience in direct contact with nature. On the other hand, we choose calm waters to do Sea Trek because from our experience as diving instructors we know that, with inexperienced people and groups, the enjoyment has a lot to do with the feeling of safety and comfort that they feel in the practice. In other words, the best places for Sea Trek are nice and calm spots.
And also, Sea Trek adapted
In addition, at Native Diving we have gone one step further with the Sea Trek adapted. It is a unique development in the world that makes the Sea Trek available to people with reduced mobility. For this purpose, we have designed a mechanical device similar to a wheelchair, and our staff has the necessary specific training. There are only three conditions that would prevent the practice of adapted Sea Trek:
- Express medical indication against.
- Inability to follow safety instructions.
- Weight over 150 kg.
This new Sea Trek modality means the elimination of the traditional barrier faced by people with reduced mobility when practicing immersion sports. In this way, we open, so to speak, the doors of the sea depths to thousands of people for whom they had been closed until now. Walking underwater, why not? To do Sea Trek and walk on the seabed you just have to come and visit us in Lanzarote, find out more without obligation!
